Teeth in a Day

Group of older women smiling and laughing outdoorsThis is a restorative dental procedure that allows patients to leave our office with a new set of teeth in a single office visit. It starts with the removal of the decayed or infected teeth followed by the implant placement and then ultimately with a temporary set of teeth being put into place. The temporary teeth only remain in place while the permanent artificial teeth are being manufactured. Before this procedure, patients would have their teeth extracted and then have to cope with missing teeth in their daily lives, waiting months for their artificial teeth to arrive. Now, those anxiety-ridden days can be avoided. Why not contact our office at Periodontal and Implant Surgeons of Houston to find out more?

What is Needed for this Procedure?

For those patients struggling with extensive decay and tooth loss, this option uses crowns made of durable material that is initially placed on the jawbones. Eventually, these fuse to the bone to become a permanent part of the patient's mouth. This can take the place of one or more teeth if necessary.

Preparation for Teeth in a Day

Even though this process can be completed in a single day, the preparation will take more than a single appointment. We will need to get the patient's medical history, take x-rays, and ensure the patient is a good candidate for the procedure before we can be started. There may be pre-existing conditions that will preclude the patient from the procedure. It may also impact their ability to heal properly following the procedure.

Things Affecting Recovery

Taking up to six months to complete, the patient's oral hygiene is of utmost importance. They have to properly maintain the area and schedule professional cleanings and assessments to make sure it will heal properly. The length of recovery is dependent upon the patient's state of oral health.

No two patients are the same with regard to the state of their dental health or with regard to how they will react to the procedure. For those patients who choose a full arch augmentation less time is needed to fully heal. Some customization may be necessary because of the difference between patients and their situations.

Advantages of Teeth in a Day

Patients being able to leave at the end of the appointment with a set of temporary teeth will not miss functionality or have a significant change in their appearance because of maintaining the underlying supportive structure of the teeth. Fewer complications mean improved efficiency and effectiveness and require fewer office visits for the patient. Jaw function, with regard to speech and the ability to chew, will not be affected either. So many times, when patients have multiple teeth extracted, they struggle to speak and to eat. This is not the case with the teeth in a day option. All around, this procedure is of huge benefit to the patient.
